Family, family and more family!!!

Phew, what a weekend! Organizing 2 family dinners, taking pictures with our new studio, running errands and weekend chores... takes up a lot of our time. However, nothing beats having good company that you don't see on a daily basis to catch up. We decided that it would be a good time to put our home studio handy to take some "christmas-ish" pictures. We learned one thing on Saturday.. it's easy to think that you'll have great christmas pictures of a 2 1/2 years old little guy... until you try and convince him to put Santas hat on and smile for you!! Ended up having a great time, and great shots of loved ones... here's some of them!

Note to self : Next time we're shooting with a toddler, MUST BRING CANDY!

Got groceries?

After a nice evening out at our local "All-you-can-eat" sushi restaurant called Sushi Kan, we got a call from a sign company that needed a stock photograph of a paper grocery bag with a variety of vegetables coming out of it. Excited to the idea of using our home studio for other things than portrait photography, we made haste to the closest grocery store to handpick the best looking vegetables of a simple variety. We got home, setup the studio, took a couple of shots and then sent them to the possible new business partner. We enjoyed the experience it provided us and of course, we'll have a nice stir-fry with the vegetable! That's what we call, "shoot n' dine"!

We're hoping to have good feedback on the pictures!

Who has the power?!

It's in! We received everything we ordered to start our home studio! 3 light stands with continuous lighting with umbrellas so now we can use either strobes (flashguns) or continuous lighting depending on the shoots. We wanted to be able to have both and work them both out to see which of them we like using the best. Despite our excitement to have a complete studio kit for under $200, we didn't have the time to set everything up for a shoot - Hopefully we will ahve a test run with family over the weekend! Of course, Kevin had Kelly take a shot of him with the lights and make it look like he's holding some sort of orb... We won't judge him, we will only cheer for his creativity!

Come back to see results soon!

SuperMom Kelly promotes Xmas!

We wanted to start promoting Christmas shoot, to be able to start having a couple of shoot in the next weeks. Kelly, at home mom, decided to go buy some props at our local dollar store, setup the studio and took pictures of a 5 month old baby, all alone!! Most parents know exactly what it involves to try and take pictures of a baby how hard to get them to react to the pose you want. In a studio environment, alone, it's an exploit worthy of blogging about!

Kevin & Kelly Photography are now in their Christmas mood and ready to take pictures of your little ones! Perfect for presents or simply great memories, book a date and time and come on to our home studio! You can reach Kelly at all times at (613)301-2609 or at photography@kevandkelly.com

Happy Holidays!

Studio Samples!

Hey everyone!

Here's a couple of pictures that we took with a single SB-600 on an umbrella. We ordered 3 lights with stands coming from San Francisco, CA along with Wireless triggers from China! We should be receiving everything in the next week, so we'll keep you updated! Until then, here's 3 shots taken!

Our DIY Backdrop stand!

After reading many different blogs and ideas for home-made backdrop stands, we decided to venture with an idea of our own. With some time to kill at home and a bit of creativity, we went to Home Depot and Rona and were able to build our stand for $70. The only thing missing from the whole thing right now, is to possibly put a little concrete into it to solidify the base. Here's a picture of the stand.(picture taken from iPhone) We bought a 53" wide roll of paper to try it out, we will post results shortly!

Cheers!

DIY Backdrop Stand!!

After checking at Vistek and Henrys for a good backdrop stand, not wanting to spend $300, I came across a really good DIY (Do It Yourself) photography site. You can find a wide variety of additions you can make for your camera or studio. Today, I will focus on the DIY backdrop stand found on this website.

I'll try this at home and post my experience on the creation of the backdrop stand. Here's another website you can check for DIY photography stuff!
